FREEBIES on Tax Day! Get a free Kona Ice in the East Branch parking lot! Get a Kona Ice coupon to use at a later date IF you register for a library card inside (see more info for card requirements).

We're celebrating tax day with FREEBIES! Kona Ice will be handing out free Kona Ice in the parking lot and East Branch will be handing out free library cards inside to new registrants who qualify* (please bring a photo ID and proof of Rockford residency to register).

*WHO CAN GET A FREE LIBRARY CARD?
The library is funded through City property tax dollars. If you live within the city of Rockford, you “pay” for services through your taxes and are eligible to receive a free library card. Those who live outside city limits are eligible to pay for library services and receive their library card for an annual fee of $115. Rockford city limits can be confusing, so ask us if you are unsure about whether or not you live within them.

*WHAT DO I NEED TO GET MY LIBRARY CARD?
Getting your library card is easy. Just bring a current photo ID and proof of residency (driver’s license, utility bill, etc.) to the East Branch Help Desk to complete an application (register). Children ages 5-13 years will need a parent/guardian with them to apply for a library card.

*CAN I USE MY CARD FROM ANOTHER ILLINOIS LIBRARY?
If you have a current library card from another Illinois library with which RPL has a reciprocal borrowing agreement, and you do not owe library fines or have overdue materials, you may use our resources. Reciprocal Borrowers have the same borrowing privileges as a Resident, with the exception of electronic devices and remote access to certain electronic databases.
