The Stress-Busting Program for Family Caregivers™ was created by WellMed Charitable Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports older adults and their caregivers with a special emphasis on wellness and prevention. A trained Lifescape Community Services professional will lead this 9-week course designed for the caregiver. Lifescape will provide gifts each week to help with the stress management techniques, a reusable water bottle and snacks. The event meets at RPL's East Branch in the Friends of RPL Community Room, a friendly, welcoming environment that allows for an opportunity to discuss experiences among others navigating similar situations. WellMed further describes its Stress-Busting Program™ as follows:
The Stress-Busting Program (SBP) for Family Caregivers™ is an evidence-based program that provides support to family caregivers of persons with dementia or a chronic illness. It is proven to:
- Improve the quality of life of family caregivers who are providing care to an older loved one.
- Help caregivers manage their stress and cope better with their lives.
In the Stress-Busting Program for Family Caregivers™, caregivers will:
- Learn about stress and its effects
- Practice stress management techniques
- Develop problem solving skills
