This is a two-hour workshop, where you will learn Jazz history, music theory, a Jazz standard, and have a Jazz jam session. Did I say Jazz enough? Pick a day or six and come learn about Jazz!
“Jazz music is the power of now. There is no script. It’s conversation. The emotion is given to you by musicians as they make split-second decisions to fulfill what they feel the moment requires.” Wynton Marsalis
“Music is your own experience, your own thoughts, your wisdom. If you don’t live it, it won’t come out of your horn. They teach you there’s a boundary line to music. But, man, there’s no boundary line to art” – Charlie Parker
Bring Your Own Instrument "BYOI" or Bring Your Own Sticks "BYOS"!
If you have percussion you would like to use, please email Colby at cmumper@rockfordpubliclibrary.org before the event to confirm space.
In this 2-hour workshop, we will supply music to practice, a slot for a Jazz jam session, and a take-home musical notebook.
This workshop offers Microphones for the vocalists, an electric guitar, bass guitar, amps for guitars or bass, and pianos.
If the event has ten people already, please add yourself to the waitlist. You don't play an instrument? Come out for the History lessons! Stay for the music. There is plenty of space for everyone in Jazz!
