A free writing workshop where participants will learn how to write, edit, record and submit 90-second opinion essays for WNIJ's Perspective series. Bring a notebook and RSVP using the link below.
How do you take your unique perspective and turn it into a 90-second commentary to share with your fellow public radio listeners? Join us at Rockford Public Library's East Branch for a fun, low pressure workshop where we discuss taking your fresh ideas, shaping them, and getting them on the air. We'll bring the coffee, you bring your ideas. We suggest bringing a notebook and your favorite pen.
Workshop host Dan Libman was one of the original Perspectivists for WNIJ. Dan has been an editor and a writing teacher and has won a Pushcart Prize for fiction and an Illinois Art Council grant in prose. Most recently, he is the author of "Book of Grudges," published in 2023. Dan currently is an instructor for NIU's Department of English and host of WNIJ's Under Rocks podcast.
Susan Stephens is an award-winning reporter/writer at WNIJ. Her #1 goal is to tell the most compelling stories in the fewest words possible…all the better if a little humor can be thrown into the mix. She's also WNIJ's Perspectives editor, Under Rocks contributor, and local host of All Things Considered.
